In this story:

The Texas Longhorns host the Kansas State Wildcats at DKR-Texas Memorial Stadium in Austin in a contest between top Big 12 teams.

Kansas State is riding a three-game winning streak with wins over Texas Tech, TCU, and Houston. Texas has won its last two after a disappointing loss to the Sooners in the Red River Rivalry in Dallas. The Longhorns have wins over Houston and BYU in the past two weeks.

The Wildcats have had success with a two-quarterback system, utilizing the skills of Will Howard and Avery Johnson. Howard is the passing threat with the ability to rattle off a long run when given the opportunity, while Johnson challenges a defense's discipline with his speed. He ran for five touchdowns against the Red Raiders.

Texas will once again turn to Maalik Murphy for the start under center while Quinn Ewers continues to nurse his injured shoulder. Murphy threw for two touchdowns against BYU but also had two early turnovers. He'll need to clean things up against K-State.

The Longhorns have won six straight against the Wildcats, but K-State now has the best scoring defense in the Big 12 and has not allowed a touchdown over the past two weeks.

An eight-yard completion to Worthy opened the drive before Murphy found Mitchell again on a deep ball, this time for a 47-yard gain. The redshirt freshman would later find Jordan Whittington for 19 yards, but Texas was forced to settle for a field goal and was lucky to get points as Murphy's third-down pass was almost intercepted in the endzone.

Texas 17, Kansas State 0

Change of Possession

The Longhorns forced another three-and-out as T'Vondre Sweat stopped a Will Howard scramble short of the first-down marker on third-down.

Change of Possession

The Longhorns had a promising drive going as Brooks picked seven yards on a first down run before a 16-yard run from Worthy on a jet sweep, then Murphy found Cook for seven yards. However, the Longhorns' drive would end as Murphy's pass intended for Cook was intercepted.

Change of Possession

The Wildcats suffered another three-and-out but it could've been a pick-six for Texas if not for the ball being knocked out of Ryan Watts' hands.

Change of Possession

The Longhorns relied heavily on Brooks as he received four straight carries, which brought up a fourth and two. After relying on Brooks early, Texas went to Savion Red for the wildcat formation, which was stuffed behind the line, and saw the ball knocked loose.

Change of Possession

Kansas State continues to struggle to get things going as they are forced to punt after another three-and-out.

Change of Possession

Murphy almost threw another interception, yet luckily for Texas, it was broken up. However, the Longhorns suffered their own three-and-out, and to make matters worse, the punt was blocked.

Change of Possession

The Wildcats took advantage of the blocked punt, driving 42 yards in four plays as Howard found his receiver Jayce Brown for a 28-yard gain before a five-yard keeper, which was capped off by a six-yard touchdown pass.

Change of Possession

The Longhorns reached Wildcat territory with a 27-yard run from Brooks, but that is where the drive stalled. After a run for no gain on first-down, Murphy had an incompletion before finding Worthy for seven yards on third-down, which wasn't enough for the first. Texas settled for a 49-yard field goal from Bert Auburn.

FIELD GOAL TEXAS

Murphy and the Longhorns' passing game found a rhythm, as he had four completions for 10 yards or more, including a crucial 16-yard gain by Ja'Tavion Sanders to convert a fourth-and-four. Despite the fourth down conversion, the Longhorns had to settle for a field goal.
