Texas Longhorns Move Up in AP Poll After Oregon Ducks' Loss
The Texas Longhorns have moved up in the Associated Press's Top-25 rankings to the No. 8 spot coming off their bye week.
A week after suffering their first loss of the season to the Oklahoma Sooners in the Red River Rivalry, the Longhorns fell from the No. 3 spot to No. 9 and have now risen up the rankings despite having their off week.
For Texas to move up in the AP poll, they were going to need help during the bye week, which they got as the now No. 5 Washington Huskies knocked off the formerly No. 8 Oregon Ducks on Saturday in a game that came down to the final seconds.
With the game tied at 34 late in the fourth quarter, Oregon coach Dan Lanning made the now-controversial decision on fourth-and-one on their own side of the 50-yard-line, which backfired as the Huskies stuffed a run for a loss to force a turnover on downs.
Thanks to the excellent field position given up by the Ducks, all it took was three plays before the Huskies kicked a field goal to take a 37-34, which won them the game as one last attempt from the Oregon offense fell short.
With the Oregon loss, Texas moved up just one spots and will look to improve to 6-1 on the season as they get ready to go on the road to face the Houston Cougars.
