Longhorns Rise in AP Top-25 Rankings After Win vs. Wyoming

The Texas Longhorns moved up in the latest AP top-25 poll after their 31-10 win over Wyoming.
In this story:

The Texas Longhorns went into Saturday's night game against the Wyoming Cowboys with an opportunity to send another statement after their Week 2 win on the road against Alabama.

After the No. 1 Georgia Bulldogs struggled in their 24-14 win over South Carolina, as they went to the locker room at halftime trailing 14-3, a dominant blowout win for the Longhorns could've seen them move up the rankings. ... And while Texas did ultimately move up to No. 3 in the latest AP Top 25 rankings, the Horns were far from their peak form on Saturday.

It was just one spot as they jumped Florida State after the Seminoles beat unranked Boston College 31-29. At the same time, the Bulldogs remain on top of the rankings despite their first-half struggles with South Carolina.

While Longhorn fans may have wanted to see their team be more dominant from the start against an inferior opponent like Wyoming, a win is a win, allowing them to see another peak into how the team would deal with adversity

As the Texas defense was able to hold the Cowboys to just 10 points, the offense didn't get going until the fourth quarter, when star receiver Xavier Worthy took a screen pass 44 yards for a touchdown. Before a 62-yard run from Jonathon Brooks set up a five-yard touchdown run for Quinn Ewers.

Then the Longhorns defense would add an insurance score, as Jerrin Thompson jumped a short out route for an interception return for a touchdown to cap off the 31-10 win.
