No. 13 Longhorns Softball Makes Program History with No-Hitter in Austin Regional
After Friday's matchup against Seton Hall ended early in a five-inning, 8-0 win for the No. 13 Texas Longhorns, the team's 2023 softball roster was recognized for making program history.
For the fist time in Texas softball program history, the Longhorns dished out a combined no-hitter in the postseason.
"You know, we just didn't get them a chance to settle in," Texas head coach Mike White said. "We know that good teams like Seton Hall always have an opportunity to get back in the game and make anything happen, so we just were cognizant of that and didn't want that to happen.”
Sophomore right-handed pitcher Mac Morgan took the mound at the start of the game to deliver a no-hitter throughout the first four innings. With a total of 38 pitches, Morgan only allowed one base runner from a walk who was sent back to the dugout only four pitches later on a fielder's choice that resulted in a double play.
At the start of the fifth inning, White gave junior left-handed pitcher Estelle Czech control of the mound. With only one inning played, Czech tossed ten pitches with no runners allowed on base.
"I'm feeling good," Morgan said after Friday's game. "I’m going to be rested for next few days, but it felt good to be out there in the circle. Today was really rewarding. I'm grateful for every opportunity I get. I mean, being able to live my dream and just being able to succeed is what I really wanted. And I think I'm doing just great.”
Before Friday's game, the last combined no-hitter to be recorded for the Longhorns took place in April of 2013, when Kim Bruins, Holly Kern, Gabby Smith and Blaire Luna aided the Longhorns in an 8-0 five inning victory over Texas Southern with their combined no-hitters.
