Longhorns' Ex Overshown in 'Good Spirits' Following ACL Injury, Sarkisian Says

Texas Longhorns coach Steve Sarkisian updated the media on Monday about current Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown after he suffered a torn ACL.

After a strong start to his NFL career, former Texas Longhorns, and current Dallas Cowboys linebacker DeMarvion Overshown will be forced to watch his first year in the league from the sidelines after suffering a torn ACL in Saturday's preseason game versus the Seattle Seahawks.

And despite both operating busy schedules, Horns coach Steve Sarkisian recently spoke with Overshown and updated the media on Monday about the former Texas linebacker's state of mind following the season-ending injury.

"I reached out to him yesterday, and he responded right back," Sarkisian said about Overshown. "It's a real bummer. I hate it for him; it was odd. I actually talked to Dan Quinn earlier in the week, and he was raving about him, of how well he was doing, and he was, we all were seeing it."

"(Overshown) is actually in really good spirits. I talked to him yesterday before his MRI, and he reached back out afterward, so he's in good spirits; he's in good hands."

The update from Sarkisian about his conversation with Cowboys defensive coordinator Dan Quinn mirrors what Dallas coach Mike McCarthy said in his press conference on Monday, where he called Overshown the "star of the rookie class."

"He has been frankly, you could make the argument, the star of the rookie class," McCarthy said. "He stood up the first time we got in the meeting room and did the walkthrough with his command. ...He was just excelling at every opportunity."

During his preseason debut against the Jacksonville Jaguars, it didn't take long for Overshown to make his presence on the field known, as he recorded his first tackle on a third-and-one stop against running back, Tank Bigsby. Overshown's third-down tackle kept Bigsby short of the first down and helped the Cowboys' defense get off the field.

The former Longhorn would finish his debut with six tackles before totaling four against the Seahawks before his injury. While the Cowboys and Longhorn fans would love to see Overshown on the field, they will have to wait a little longer.
