In-State OL Cruz, Mother 'Love' Steve Sarkisian, Longhorns

Interior projection, blue-chip recruit already has Texas official visit set

ARLINGTON, Texas -- The Texas Longhorns have done a great job up front in the Steve Sarkisian, Kyle Flood recruiting era both in-state and well beyond.

One of the best within Lone Star State lines in the class of 2024, Daniel Cruz, looks like another prime target UT will remain in the hunt for until the final whistle of the North Richland Hills (Texas) Richland standout's recruitment.

Cruz impressed all at the Under Armour Next All-America camp outside of Dallas on Sunday, reaffirming why he has long been viewed as a priority recruit for the Longhorns.

"I love coach Sark, my mom loves him," Cruz told Fan Nation's Matt Galatzan. "We got to sit down in his office and we just feel at home in there. He's very welcoming.

"They've been recruiting me heavily."

Flood has also played a part in this recruitment and Cruz has already set an official visit to Texas for late June, during the weekend of the 24th. It's the only trip with a date attached, as both parties are set to become more familiar with one another.

"I like the way him (Sarkisian) and his coaching staff talks to me, the way they talk football with me," he said. "He actually sits down, takes some time and tells me the little things I can do to improve."

Cruz, who mentioned a possible visit to Ohio State among other contenders for him, was last in Austin in January for one of the program's first junior day events of the year. He was initially offered by both Sarkisian and Flood while visiting last June.

Texas A&M, Oklahoma and others could also be viewed as the current primary contenders for Cruz, who could be considering an offseason decision.
