UCLA Football: Cameron Jones’ Case For Why He’s Up Next at UCLA

We caught up with the future Bruin after his huge performance against top ranked Mater Dei.
In this story:

After putting together one of the best performances of his young career, St. John Bosco (Bellflower, CA) running back Cameron Jones spoke with AllBruins.com about what his focus has been this season and why he remains confident about his decision to play for Chip Kelly at UCLA.

“Everything went right,” says the 6-2 235-pound Jones in reference to his 135-yard, three-touchdown (two rushing, one receiving) performance against top-ranked Mater Dei this past Friday evening. “The only way we could lose is if we beat ourselves.”

Jones spoke about what he’s been focusing on during his final season at St. John Bosco:

“Preparing my body for college. Honestly, when I came into the year, I felt like I needed to get my body right for the season. Before the season, I was just working on my speed, working on my mental, bodybuilding. Seeing how I can transform my body gaining speed and muscle at the same time”.

Jones tells AllBruins.com he talks to UCLA running backs coach Deshaun Foster a lot, who himself is a former All-American running back for the Bruins, as well as head coach Chip Kelly. The relationship he’s built with the staff “played a big part” in his decision to commit. “I met Coach Foster’s family, his wife, and his kids, and it (UCLA) just felt like home to me. Even though I don’t live far from UCLA, it feels like a whole different world. The atmosphere is just great”.

We asked Jones if anything specific about Chip Kelly attracted him to UCLA. “Oh yea - running the ball!” Jones says. “He gave me a lot of knowledge during the meetings that I had with him not just about football but about the connections that they have for life after football and the connections they have while I’m there for internships and stuff like that”.

Jones plans on signing his letter of intent during the early signing day period this coming December. He told us that he has everything set up to be an early enrollee at UCLA, but he isn’t sure if he’ll do so just yet.
