Your UCLA Bruins football team improved their record on the season to 3-0 after a convincing win over North Carolina Central this past weekend. It was a dominant showing for the Bruins and one they needed to have before they start conference play this coming week.

The Bruins jumped up into the top-25 rankings with the victory, and they are feeling good about themselves. But with the victory, their defense did make some history, 14 years in the making.

“UCLA has opened the 2023 season by holding all three opponents under 20 points (North Carolina Central 7, San Diego State 10, Coastal Carolina 13). The last time UCLA held three straight opponents in a season to 20 points or less was in 2009 when it defeated San Diego State 33-14, Tennessee 19-14, and Kansas State 23-9.”

The defense of the Bruins has been one of the more underrated parts of this team this season. They are athletic and get after the quarterback like no other. It has been great to see, and it is a big reason why they have found so much success this season.

Their next game will truly show what this team is made of. While the early wins have been great to help boost their resume and build confidence, they have a tough test this coming weekend. UCLA will head to Salt Lake City to face the highly-ranked Utah Utes.

The Bruins have looked good so far, but this is their first real challenge of the year. The Utes are a well-coached football program that plays hard for the entire 60 minutes, so UCLA must come in focused and prepared for them.

They haven’t taken down the Utes on the road since 2015, so history isn’t on their side in this upcoming game. But it could go a long way if they can perform well against Utah. Getting a win over a team like Utah would put this team on the map and show that they are for real this season.
