UCLA Football: Reporter Believes Starting Quarterback Debate Is Over After Game 2
Coming into this season, your UCLA Bruins football program had a big task on its hands.
Longtime starting quarterback Dorian Thompson-Robinson was no longer in Westwood, as he had been drafted by the Cleveland Browns after his illustrious four-year tenure as a Bruin.
That left UCLA in a crucial transition period after the best season of Chip Kelly's time on the southern California sidelines.
Between redshirt junior Ethan Garbers, graduate transfer Collin Schlee, and five-star freshman Dante Moore, who would take the reins of the program in 2023?
After the freshman's standout performance in a 35-10 win over San Diego State, Joseph Crosby of the Daily Bruin considers the debate a wrap.
"Coach Chip Kelly was once again adamant after the game that the team has three strong quarterbacks and will continue to evaluate ahead of its next game against North Carolina Central.
But actions speak louder than words, and freshman quarterback Dante Moore’s three uninterrupted quarters of play against San Diego State may have been the loudest message sent at Snapdragon Stadium."

Moore had a great game against the Aztecs last Saturday as he threw three touchdowns in the 35-10 road win, including an 81-yard touchdown to Josiah Norwood to begin the scoring after two straight three-and-outs.
His accuracy was a touch off at times, but Moore made plays when he needed to and didn't force any throws, an improvement over his debut against Coastal Carolina.
Overall, progress was made against a stout defense, and Moore was again able to jumpstart the Bruins' offense en route to a comfortable victory.
Garbers didn't play at all in the win last weekend -- instead, Schlee made his UCLA debut in his stead -- but given both what he's shown in past years and in the Coastal Carolina contest, Garbers doesn't look like the guy going forward.
It's time for head coach Chip Kelly to give the keys to Moore, officially, and once and for all.
