UCLA Women's Basketball: Bruins Fall Below Top 10 in New AP Rankings
The UCLA Bruins have dealt with a bit of adversity in their last six games. Despite going 4-2 in that stretch, the team fell to Stanford 80-60 and Oregon State 77-25. Those losses have now led to the team falling below the top 10 in this week's AP Rankings.
The Bruins were #9 last week, but have since dropped three more spots to land at #12 this week. Even at 20-5 on the season, the team is still #5 in the Pac-12 and ranked #12 nationally.
This just goes to show how tough the Pac-12 is this season. The Bruins have had to go against top-level teams like #3 ranked Stanford, #9 ranked Oregon State, and #7 ranked USC.
The Bruins have held their own in most games, but losing Lauren Betts to injury may have cost the team a couple of wins along the way.
Dropping out of the top 10 does not mean the team is any less impressive. They have managed to beat USC, Oregon State, and Colorado.
It will just be up to the team to use their recent losses as fuel to rocket them back up in the conversation for which Pac-12 team has a good shot at NCAA Tournament gold. The Bruins are still an amazingly talented group that should go far in the tournament.
