UCLA Women's Basketball: UConn Coach Criticizes Huskies Depth After Falling To Bruins
The UConn Huskies have long been the powerhouse program in women's college basketball over the years, and they have set the standard for success. While they have dropped from the top in recent years, they are still one of the better programs in the country.
On Friday night, the UCLA Bruins finally took down the Huskies by a score of 78-67. It was the first time in the school's history that they had defeated UConn, going 0-7 in the previous matchups.
The Huskies came into the game banged up, and it made a difference against the loaded Bruins squad. Head coach Geno Auriemma didn't hold back about the injuries after the game.
“You can’t beat a really good team with one player,” UConn coach Geno Auriemma said. “It was disappointing that we didn’t get more contributions from more people. Our combinations are all screwed up right now, so that’s got to get sorted out. We struggled, we had our runs, we just didn’t have enough.”

Even with the injuries, the Bruins may be the better team. They dominated for the majority of the night, and they have been great all season long.
“We really were confident that if we executed the game plan, that we were going to win,” UCLA coach Cori Close said. “I say that with great respect [for UConn], but I really believe in what this team is building. I didn’t think we played our best basketball — we really had some moments we really need to clean up — but really proud of this next step and who we’re becoming.”

The Bruins are currently ranked second in the country, their highest ranking ever. It has been a great season so far from them, and they are hoping that it translates into a title at the end of the season.
