UNC Basketball Alum Now Has NBA's Second-Longest 3-Point Streak
Former two-year UNC basketball forward Cam Johnson, a 2019 lottery pick now in his first full season with the Brooklyn Nets, has knocked down at least one 3-pointer in 50 straight regular season outings. His streak dates back to Jan. 24 when he was with the Phoenix Suns. Impressive.
And as a result of Golden State Warriors great Steph Curry's rare cold shooting night, the 27-year-old Johnson's 50 mark now sits at No. 2 among the NBA's active streaks behind Milwaukee Bucks star Damian Lillard's 102 games in a row.
As Basketball Reference pointed out in the post below, the 268 by Curry set the all-time NBA record. The league's all-time 3-point leader recently drained the 3,500th of his career, but he went 0-for-8 from deep in the Warriors' 118-114 road victory over the Portland Trail Blazers on Sunday.
Curry's streak began on Dec. 1, 2018. Incredible.
Next on the slate for Cam Johnson and the Nets (13-12), who boast another NBA Tar Heel in reserve big man Day'Ron Sharpe, is a road game against the Utah Jazz (9-17) at 9 p.m. ET Monday.
Johnson, a full-time starter, is averaging 14.3 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 2.7 assists this season while shooting 45.5 percent from the field, 38.9 percent from downtown, and 81.5 percent at the charity stripe.
Meanwhile, Lillard's next chance to extend his now-league-best streak comes on Tuesday night when the Bucks (19-7) host the San Antonio Spurs (4-21).
