Drake Powell, who shines at nearby Northwood High School (N.C.) in Pittsboro and committed to UNC basketball head coach Hubert Davis over 13 months ago, is among Tar Heels in Chapel Hill this weekend.

He is on an official visit, according to Rivals' David Sisk. Chances are Powell remains on campus Friday through Sunday.

It's safe to assume the 6-foot-6, 195-pound versatile small forward will attend Live Action with Carolina Basketball in the Dean E. Smith Center on Friday night before watching Saturday night's UNC football showdown against Miami in Kenan Memorial Stadium.

Undoubtedly, it looks as though Drake Powell is locked in with his pledge as a future Tar Heel and will likely put it in ink during November's early signing period.

Powell, a five-star, ranks No. 12 on the 247Sports 2024 Composite (up almost 50 notches since he announced his commitment) and is one of three early UNC basketball commits in the cycle.

The other two 2024 Tar Heels are Our Saviour Lutheran School (N.Y.) five-star shooting guard Ian Jackson (No. 10 composite ranking) and Link Academy (Mo.) four-star center James Brown (No. 64).
