Three-star linebacker Evan Bennett, also a versatile track and field star for Gatewood School (Ga.), was the first in the 2024 class to commit to UNC football head coach Mack Brown and his staff. His pledge came in late January.

Bennett, part of a trio of three-star linebackers who signed with the Tar Heels this week, ranks No. 904 overall, No. 78 at his position, and No. 103 among Georgia prospects on the 247Sports 2024 Composite.

The Tar Heels welcomed Bennett to the program by posting a personalized hype video and spotlighting his prep highlights:

Here's a scouting report, courtesy of 247Sports' Don Callahan:

"Bennett is a rangy, well-built, off-ball linebacker, who's been a big fish in a small pond in high school. Playing at a small school, he split time between offense and defense, which showcased his versatility and may portend a considerable developmental jump once his sole focus is linebacker.

"With his long stride, the 6-foot-3, 215-pounder unexpectedly closes quickly and, although he can become bogged down in traffic, is persistent in pursuit."

Evan Bennett is one of only seven in the 27-deep UNC football recruiting haul not tabbed to be an early enrollee.
