On Sunday afternoon, UNC football alum Sam Howell became the fastest in Washington Commanders franchise history to record 200 career completions. His 24 first-half completions also set a franchise record.

Although the day ended in the 3-5 Commanders' 38-31 home loss to the 7-1 Philadelphia Eagles, the 23-year-old's stat line was the best of his pro career since getting drafted at No. 144 overall to Washington in 2022 following three prolific seasons with the Tar Heels.

Howell, in his first season as the Commanders' full-time starter, completed 15 of his first 16 passes against the Eagles.

By game's end, UNC football's 2019 ACC Rookie of the Year and two-time All-ACC selection had connected on 39 of his 52 attempts, totaling career-highs with his 397 yards and four touchdowns through the air.

He threw only one interception and posted a 114.0 passer rating, tacking on 11 yards on three rushes.

Sam Howell, the Tar Heels' all-time leader in touchdowns (109), has thrown for 2,146 yards, 13 touchdowns, and eight interceptions through eight games this year.

The Commanders face the New England Patriots next Sunday at 1 p.m. ET.
