USC Football: Dan Patrick Attacks Caleb Williams For Ditching Media Postgame

The longtime sports personality believes the reigning Heisman trophy winner needs to face the music, whether it'd good or bad.

The USC Trojans ended their season last week after a disappointing and unexpected loss to their cross-town rivals, the UCLA Bruins. The Trojans didn't show up in their home field, losing to a more physical and hungry Bruin team.

It was an embarrassing outing for the Men of Troy to put the cap on what ended up being a seaosn to forget under head coach Lincoln Riley and star quarterback Caleb Williams. The season went from good to bad and then from bad to worse. USC ended the season with a 7-5 record after expectations of them finally landing in the college football playoff. Those hopes and dreams flew out the window in mid-October, but it wasn't because of their reigning Heisman winner.

Williams gave it all in his junior season and hoped to play for a college football championship. Unfortunately, this wasn't the year, and their five losses were unexpected. However, it was more unexpected that Williams didn't speak to the media in four of their five losses during the post-game interview. It ended up being a reoccurring theme, and long-time sports personality Dan Patrick said he believes Williams should have been up at the podium through the good and bad.

Would I had liked for him too? Yes. He should be proud of what he accomplished. I know it’s disappointing you didn’t win the Heisman, but you did everything you could do stand up there; you take the bullets, and it might be uncomfortable, but you take the highs and the lows with that position. These are learning, teaching moments. Because without you this year, they may have had two wins.

Like Patrick said, that shouldn't be a reason for him to fall in the draft. He is the most highly touted prospect in a really long time, and anyone who passes up on Williams will regret it for a very long time.

There is no doubt that he should speak to the media through the good and bad because, in the NFL, no one will save you as they did at USC. I don't like that he didn't face the music through the losses, but I don't expect that to happen in the NFL. It's not cool talking about a loss, but it's necessary, and he needs to get used to it in 2024 if he decides to elect for the NFL.

The 22-year-old cannot be ducking the media anymore; it's not a great look, and hopefully, he will learn from it going forward.
