USC Football: Four Trojan Transfers Secure Spots in ESPN's Top 50 Newcomers
USC fielded three of 24/7 Sports' top 10 transfers last season as Caleb Williams, Jordan Addison, and Mario Williams were all integral to the Trojans' offensive success.
The Trojans are running it back this year, with four transfers landing in ESPN's Top 50 Newcomers. However, this year's transfer portal and freshman class yielded talented defenders, although there was still an influx of offensive firepower.
Let's check out each of the Trojans on the ESPN Top 50 Newcomers list.
Mason Cobb
Ranking No. 8 in the list, Cobb is the Trojans' highest-rated transfer, according to ESPN. The senior linebacker spent his first three years of eligibility at Oklahoma State. Last season, he had 96 total tackles, including two sacks. The Provo native also added a forced fumble and an interception.
Cobb will anchor a Trojan defense that consistently struggled to contain the run. His physicality and competitiveness will be integral to reshaping the culture of the USC defense.
Dorian Singer
The only offensive player on the Top 50 Newcomers list, former Arizona Wildcat Singer impressed Caleb Williams so much in their matchup last year that he asked one of his coaches if they were "gonna go get him?'"
Singer, who was ranked No. 14, had 66 receptions last season for 1,105 yards and six touchdowns. With an elite quarterback like Williams throwing to a deep-threat receiver in Singer, the junior's stat line could look even better after the 2023 season.
As the Trojans lost receiver Jordan Addison to the NFL Draft, Singer has eerily similar strengths and has an opportunity to step up for the Trojan offense.
Bear Alexander
Formerly part of the formidable Georgia defensive line, Bear Alexander ranked No. 25, bringing size to the Trojans' defensive line.
Alexander, a 4-star prospect coming out of high school, Alexander is quick off the line and is a strong pass rusher. With a loaded roster on the defensive line, Alexander was not utilized much at Georgia, but the sophomore had a sack in the national championship game.
Zachariah Branch
Zachariah Branch was a 5-star recruit coming out of high school and has been generating buzz in fall camp. His speed is what separates him from the pack.
Branch put up 753 yards and 11 touchdowns in his final high school season. His speed also makes him a dangerous punt returner, a role he could take on for the Trojans. With the addition of Branch, the Trojan receiving corps could be one of the best in the country.
