USC Football: How Improved Play Of NFL QB Could Impact Caleb Williams' Future
USC QB Caleb Williams is authoring a repeat bid for the 2023 Heisman and plenty of NFL teams are salivating at the chance to pick him first overall in this spring's draft.
One team to keep an eye on is the Chicago Bears after their current young passer Justin Fields showed a lot of promise in his two most recent games.
Despite these glimpses, one analyst argues that Williams would be a better prospect for their future plans than the former Buckeye.
"I'd ask Bears fans a very simple question. Is this what you really want? I don't know if it's an easy answer. Because we're talking about Caleb Williams. You're talking about being in the hunt for Caleb Williams. And he's that special. And you would turn the page. It doesn't matter who was at quarterback. You'd be like, 'OK, we're doing this,' And that may seem far away. It's the beginning of October. And just because you're bad doesn't guarantee you a chance. And Fields working out long-term, maybe not being a top-10 quarterback, but working out for some version of whatever working it out is. It's a safer plan than hoping you outmaneuver every other team that's going to try to lose games at the end of the year. Because I think it's going to get weird.

Early contenders for the Caleb Williams sweepstakes include the Bears, Giants, Panthers, Patriots and Vikings among others when looking at the standings.
Each team would certainly benefit from having a young quarterback of Williams' caliber but the Trojan QB may return to USC with his remaining year of eligibility should a certain NFL team's situation be undesirable.
Fields' recent great play might inspire his current team but Chicago might still opt to choose Williams with either of their projected high draft picks by the time April rolls around.
