USC Football: The Week 5 Caleb Williams Bowl Standings

Some interesting teams here...

One of the biggest storylines to watch this season in college football has been USC quarterback Caleb Williams's continued success.

He is one of the best signal-callers we have seen in a long time, and he holds the inside track to being the likely first-overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.

If Williams continues his incredible play, he will be taken first overall, but where could he go?

Right now, the Carolina Panthers would hold the pick right now, but they just took their franchise quarterback last season, Bryce Young. However, Williams is a game-changer, and he could make the Panthers think twice about how to proceed.

Following Carolina, there are six teams that are 1-4 on the season. The New York Giants, New England Patriots, Chicago Bears, Denver Broncos, Minnesota Vikings, and Arizona Cardinals all have had poor starts to the season.

Each of these teams could make the case for Williams if they were to land the first overall pick, even with some already having their guy at the quarterback position.

The Chicago Bears have Justin Fields, but Williams could make them move on from him. The Cardinals have Kyler Murray but are in a similar spot as the Bears. Williams would change things for Arizona.

Denver has Russell Wilson, and it would be tough to move his contract, but getting a guy like Williams could be worth it. The same goes for the Giants, who just paid Daniel Jones last offseason.

So, that leaves the Vikings and Patriots. Kirk Cousins is there for Minnesota, but he isn't the guy to lead them to the promised land. If the Vikings got Williams, pairing him with All-Pro wide receiver Justin Jefferson would be scary for NFL defenses.

But the most intriguing of them all is the Patriots. Quarterback Mac Jones hasn't played well at all, and the Patriots are likely to move away from him after this season. Enter in Williams.

If Bill Belichick were to land Williams, the NFL may have a collective freakout. The last thing anyone needs is for New England to get another top-tier quarterback, and Williams is just that.

This certainly will be something to watch going forward, and the Williams sweepstakes are in full swing.
