In this story:

As USC prepares to enter the Big-10 conference next season, the other Big-10 schools need to start doing so as well. USC has been one of the biggest names in college football since the beginning of the sport, and when they are good, they are a hotbed for talent. Even when the Trojans find themselves not performing up to standards on the field, they still find a way to get good recruits. This is just how it is for this school.

The Big-10 has dealt with powerhouses such as Michigan and Ohio State, but USC is a game-changer for the conference. USC is on the level of Alabama, for example, and recruits are going to flock to go there. With Lincoln Riley as the head coach and the Trojans gaining steam in terms of relevancy, the Big-10 teams will need to counter.

Oklahoma expert Kegan Reneau provided an answer on how to deal with Riley going forward during an episode of The Riley Files podcast. The topic of Iowa State and head coach Matt Campbell got brought up and how they have done things differently then other Big-12 schools. The Cyclones are a potential expansion team for the Big-10 if the conference chooses.

"When you talk about hiring Matt Campbell, if you want to deal with Lincoln Riley, we’re assuming that Campbell will bring Jon Heacock with him to the next program that hires him. Matt Campbell’s going to hire a good defensive coordinator who will have the chess moves ready"

Per The Riley Files Podcast

Any team in the Big-10 will need a good defensive coordinator to deal with the high-powered offense of USC. The Trojans will be coming over from the offensive-heavy PAC-12 conference, and Riley is a mastermind with his offensive schemes.

It won't be enough for teams to play the ground-and-pound game anymore otherwise, USC will run all over them. The move signals a major change for the conference but one that should ultimately help it move forward in a more positive way.
