USC Football: Star Ex-Trojans Safety Talanoa Hufanga Has ACL Tear, Officially Done For Year

The former Trojans All-American is done for the 2023 season

Injuries are a part of football, and unfortunately, a big one struck a former USC All-American this past Sunday.

Former USC safety and current San Francisco 49er Talanoa Hufanga will miss the rest of the 2023 NFL season after tearing his ACL in a Week 11 Niners win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, per the NFL's official Twitter/X account.

The All-Pro safety tore his right knee on Sunday, 49er head coach Kyle Shanahan reported following the game.

"He does have a torn ACL," Shanahan confirmed. "They don't think there was any meniscus or anything, so it's as clean as it could be."

(Per Nick Wagoner of ESPN)

This is a big blow to the 49ers defense, whose secondary has not been the same as last year. Still, Hufanga brought toughness and tenacity to the defense, which they'll lack for the rest of the season.

The 23-year-old made a name for himself in cardinal red and gold, spending three years in Southern California. He was a consensus All-American in 2020, First-team All-Pac-12 in 2020, and Second-team All-Pac-12 in 2019.

The former Trojan has a bright future in the league, and we wish him a speedy recovery.
