USC Football: Wild Trade Proposal Would See Caleb Williams Landing With NFC East Mainstay
With Heisman Trophy winner Caleb Williams a virtual lock for the number one overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, many quarterback-needy teams are willing to trade up to get him. Round one, pick one is always going to come with a high price tag. But this year, it's safe to say teams aren't thinking about how much it would cost to buy that pick. Some teams could very well be thinking 'can I afford not to pay that price?'.
Mike Tannenbaum, the former general manager for the New York Jets, discussed one possible price tag for the USC legend Caleb Williams. In an appearance on ESPN's Get Up, Tannenbaum suggested that for the Chicago Bears' first overall pick, the New York Giants would have to give up their star defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux, along with this year's sixth overall pick, a 2024 & 2025 second-round, and a 2025 first-round pick.
For context, here is what the first overall pick (Alabama's Bryce Young) went for last year.
Panthers receive:
- 2023 first-round pick (No. 1 overall)
Bears receive:
- WR D.J. Moore
- 2023 first-round pick (No. 9 overall)
- 2023 second-round pick (No. 61 overall)
- 2024 first-round pick
- 2025 second-round pick
Step aside, Daniel Jones.
USC had eight players invited to participate in the 2024 NFL combine. For context, Michigan had 18 players invited.
On the offensive side of the ball, running back MarShawn Lloyd, receivers Brenden Rice and Tahj Washington, offensive lineman Jarrett Kingston all got invites. On the defensive side, edge prospect Solomon Byrd, safety Calen Bullock, and cornerback Christian Roland-Wallace will all likely be in attendance as well. As it stands, it looks like Williams is the lone Trojan who's generally considered a lock for the first round.
