USC Holds Firm at Sixth in Latest AP Top 25

They'll get another chance next week to move up.

After a dominating victory over Nevada, the USC Trojans moved to a record of 2-0 on the season. It was the kind of win that made a statement, even if it was against a weaker opponent.

Now, after the first full season of the new college football season, the Trojans remain in the same spot that they were prior to the season in the AP Top-25 poll. USC held their ground in the latest ranking, coming in 6th.

They sit behind Georgia, Michigan, Alabama, Ohio State, and Florida State. Florida State was given the nudge over USC due to their impressive blowout victory over the LSU Tigers this weekend.

The Trojans begin their conference play this weekend when they welcome in Stanford to the Coliseum. This is when things start to become real for this USC squad, as the competition will start to increase each week.

There have been some major positives through the first two weeks of the season, including the improvement of the defensive unit. They particularly played well this past weekend against the Wolf Pack, showing some of the promise that they have.

The unit will need to continue working as the season goes on if they hope to reach their goals.

The offense has looked as it was expected, too, flying up and down the field at a high rate. Quarterback Caleb Williams looks like he hasn't lost a step and is indeed going for his second consecutive Heisman Trophy.

This is the year that head coach Lincoln Riley needs to make some noise. It's his second season with the program and the final one in the Pac-12 conference.

Things will likely only get tougher from here on out for the Trojans, so the time is now to take advantage of every opportunity that comes their way.
