USC Football: Scouting Trojan Wide Receiver Commit Ryan Pellum
Millikan (Long Beach, CA) wide receiver Ryan Pellum committed to USC back in June, and has had a terrific senior season for Millikan High School. He is apart of a Trojans 2024 recruitng class (the inaugural class for USC’s first year in the Big 10) that consists of 17 other commits and is ranked 18th in the country (according to 247Sports). He is one of two wide receivers committed to the Trojan’s 2024 class, the other being Sierra Canyon (Chatsworth, CA) Xavier Jordan.
So, what makes Pellum special? AllTrojans.com took a look at his film to better understand what sort of talent he’s bringing to the Trojans offense.
Coming in at 5’11" and 170 pounds, Pellum looks to play a role similar to the one that Zacharia Branch played in the slot this season. Interestingly enough, Branch just entered the transfer portal, so a notable void is currently waiting to be filled at that slot position. Pellum will likely take one year to develop into the go-to slot receiver for the Trojans, but he has a ton going for him in terms of his skillset.
Pellum has elite burst off the line of scrimmage and at the top of his route out of his breaks. His speed is his biggest weapon, and should contribute on special teams as a return man in his first year at USC. He’s got excellent all-around athleticism, and can be physical as a blocker when need be.
He easily adjusts to off-target passes in-stride. Also is fantastic at turning nothing into something as a ball carrier, which comes in handy when playing the slot. He’s the type of talent that coaches will look to get the ball to in space because if his big play ability. He looks extremely comfortable with the ball in his hands, and when he’s in stride he simply is too fast for the defenders on his highlight tape.
