USC Football: Trojans Earn Late Commitment From 2024 Defensive End

USC dips into the Peach State for its 19th commitment in the class of 2024.

Another flip! Just a couple of hours after flipping Prior Lake (Prior Lake, MN) 2024 defensive lineman Jide Abasirihad from Minnesota, USC's recruiting department gave Trojan fans another early holiday gift.

Jenkins (Savannah, GA) 2024 defensive end Lorenzo Cowan just announced his commitment to USC on X. He becomes the 19th commit in the Trojans 2024 recruiting class. Let's break down the path of Cowan's commitment.

Cowan wasn't too heavily recruited with only a handful of offers before the start of his senior season. In September, Cowan took an official visit to Kentucky, and subsequently committed to the Wildcats a couple of days later. Fast forward to December, USC managed to get Cowan on an official visit and also offered him a scholarship the same day.

The visit must've left a huge impression on Cowan, as the 6-4 ~200-pound then decommitted from Kentucky just to commit to USC two days later.

USC is on a great streak of flips, bolstering their defensive front for their inaugural season on the Big 10. Cowan lined up at defensive end in an even front for his high school program and was extremely effective as both a pass rusher and run stopper. He tallied 8 sacks, and 19 tackles for loss, to go along with 76 total tackles during his senior season. He's got the high motor that defensive line coaches look for when recruiting.

He will likely need some time to develop technically and physically, but the former SEC commit has all the baseline traits of an effective pass rusher.
