Four-Star QB Isaac Wilson Signs Letter of Intent to Play for Utah Utes
On December 19th, 2023, one of the Utes most publicized prospects signed his national letter of intent to play football at the University of Utah.
Isaac Wilson, quarterback of Corner Canyon High School and 2023 Utah 6A State Champion, made things official regarding his verbal commitment to the Utah football program.
Wilson, who is the younger brother of Zach Wilson, former BYU starting quarterback and current quarterback for the New York Jets, is arguably the Utes' most highly anticipated prospect of the 2024 cycle.
Wilson set the nation on fire during the 2023 high school football season. The Corner Canyon gunslinger ranked second in the national for total yards (5901), sixth in total passing yards (4595), and tacked on 1304 rushing yards, which was enough for 12th most in the state of Utah.
Thanks in large part to his impressive season, Wilson’s team, the Corner Canyon Chargers, boasted a 13-1 overall record on the season. The Chargers, whose only loss came from a game against No. 1 Bishop Gorman, ranked 13th in MaxPreps final high school football ranking of the 2023 season. Moreover, led by Wilson, the Chargers crushed Skyridge (41-27) in the Utah 6A State Championship at Rice-Eccles Stadium.
For all his feats, Wilson was also the recipient of a variety of awards. The high school senior was named “2023 Deseret News Mr. Football”, was a finalist in the prestigious “Elite 11” quarterback competition, achieved MaxPreps Player of the Year for the State of Utah, and was a MaxPreps First-Team All-American.
Perhaps most impressive, Wilson was one of the five finalists for MaxPreps Player of the Year. An award given to the athlete who is the top player in all of high school football.
Wilson’s effectiveness in high school speaks for itself. He was one of the best players in the entire nation and elevated his team (Corner Canyon) to one of the highest levels the program has ever seen.
Hopes are high that Wilson can do the same for the Utes’ football program. With at least one season to learn under Utah starting quarterback Cam Rising, Wilson will most likely become the team’s lead signal caller in 2025.
“I can’t wait to learn from Cam Rising. He’s been killing it. Getting up there early, that’s really been my focus because I get to see the difference between high school and college and their different aspects, but I’m just excited to learn from Cam Rising when I get up there,” Wilson said in an interview with the Deseret News.
Wilson will begin attending Utah as soon as January. By graduating high school early and enrolling at the University of Utah, Wilson gets a head start on learning Andy Ludwig’s playbook.
Before he can hit the practice field, however, Wilson will need to do some healing. He is set to undergo a small knee surgery, which was first reported by the Deseret News.
“It’s a cadaver (surgery), so I have to get new bone and cartilage put into my femur. I chipped off a couple pieces, so I’ll get surgery after I get a match,” Wilson said. “So it could be next week or I don’t know, three months from now. We just have to get a match. But I’ll be in a lock brace for four weeks, not being able to walk. But then after three months I’ll start lifting and getting into it and I’ll be at 100% by six months and I’ll be working with Utah all the way through that.”
