UVA Center Kadin Shedrick Taking Visits to Four Potential Transfer Suitors
A long list of potential suitors lined up to show interest when Virginia redshirt junior center Kadin Shedrick entered the transfer portal back on March 27th. Shedrick drew interest from more than two dozen major conference programs, but has now cut that list down to just four potential landing spots. Each of those four programs will host Shedrick on a visit over the next couple of weeks.
According to multiple reports, Kadin Shedrick will visit Texas from from April 17th-19th, Missouri on April 19th and 20th, Xavier on April 23rd and 24th, and Duke on April 29th and 30th.
That final visit will likely elicit groans of frustration from UVA fans, as it's difficult enough to see a now-former Wahoo hitting the portal to play for another team without having to consider the possibility of having to see Virginia play against that athlete suited up in the uniform of one of UVA's top ACC rivals. It's not surprising that Shedrick is considering a transfer to Duke. A native of Holly Springs, North Carolina, it's likely a dream come true for Shedrick that the Blue Devils are interested in adding him to their roster. But, most UVA fans would likely agree that they'd prefer Shedrick go to essentially any other school.
After redshirting his first season in Charlottesville, Shedrick appeared in 76 games over the last three seasons, including 34 starts. Shedrick began each of the last two seasons as UVA's starting center, but had lost that starting spot by season's end both times. This season, Shedrick averaged 6.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game and saw his playing time dwindle throughout the season.
Consistently chosen as UVA's breakout candidate of the year, Shedrick showed flashes of potential, but never quite found a rhythm in his time with the Cavaliers, especially on the offensive end of the floor. As evidenced by the long list of programs who expressed interest in Shedrick in the transfer portal - Kansas, Indiana, Michigan, Illinois, Houston, West Virginia, Kansas State, Florida State to name a few - it is clear that many coaches across college basketball see a great deal of value and potential in finding a way to utilize him better than the Cavaliers have over the last few years.
Kadin Shedrick spent four years in the Virginia men's basketball program and will depart with his UVA degree in hand. There's no question that it's the right decision for him to get a fresh start at a new (and hopefully non-ACC) program and with two years of eligibility remaining, there's a chance Shedrick can revitalize his basketball career and tap into the potential that got him to UVA in the first place.
