Virginia redshirt junior center Kadin Shedrick entered the NCAA transfer portal on Monday afternoon. Shedrick is the third Cavalier to enter the transfer portal since the end of the season, joining redshirt senior center Francisco Caffaro and freshman forward Isaac Traudt, who entered the portal earlier on Monday.

A 6'11" center from Holly Springs, North Carolina, Shedrick appeared in 76 games over the last three seasons, including 34 starts. Shedrick began each of the last two seasons as UVA's starting center, but did not end the regular season as a starter in either year. This season, Shedrick averaged 6.2 points and 3.8 rebounds per game and saw his playing time dwindle throughout this season until an injury to Ben Vander Plas gave him an opportunity for more playing time in the postseason. Shedrick delivered three solid performances off the bench at the ACC Tournament and then earned the start in what ended up being his final game as a Cavalier in the NCAA Tournament, recording a 15-point, 13-rebound double-double in Virginia's first round loss to Furman.

There was some hope that Shedrick might decide to return to UVA for another season after his strong play at the end of the year, but given his drastic decline in playing time throughout the course of the season, his entrance into the transfer portal is not a very big surprise. Shedrick enters the portal as a graduate transfer with two years of eligibility remaining.

The departures of Kadin Shedrick, Isaac Traudt, and Francisco Caffaro leaves Virginia extremely light in the front court, so it is now essentially inevitable that Tony Bennett and the Cavaliers will be looking to add at least one, if not more, front court player(s) from the transfer portal this offseason.
