SMU Cornerback Sam Westfall Transfers to Virginia
More help is on the way for the Cavalier secondary.
SMU cornerback transfer Sam Westfall announced his commitment to Virginia in a social media post on Sunday evening.
A 5'10", 188-pound defensive back from Saint George, Utah, Westfall has spent the last four years at Southern Methodist University, appearing in 27 total games over those four seasons. Westfall redshirted the 2019 season and then appeared in six games in 2020 and seven games in 2021. He became a full-time starter in 2022, appearing in 13 games and recording 15 tackles and three passes defended.
Westfall entered the transfer portal on April 21st and announced his commitment to the Cavaliers on Sunday following an official visit earlier this week. He comes to Virginia with two years of eligibility remaining.
Westfall is the third defensive back the Cavaliers have added this offseason, joining Iowa State cornerback Tayvonn Kyle and Clemson cornerback Malcolm Greene, who announced his commitment to Virginia on May 1st. UVA has added four transfers this spring: SMU cornerback Sam Westfall, Clemson cornerback Malcolm Greene, Dayton offensive lineman Brian Stevens, and Penn State offensive lineman Jimmy Christ.
