Virginia Lands Commitment From Three-Star Defensive End Chase Morrison
The recruiting spree continues for the UVA football program. For the third-consecutive day, the Cavaliers have reeled in a verbal commit from the 2024 recruiting class following this weekend's official visits as three-star defensive end Chase Morrison announced his commitment to Virginia in a social media post on Wednesday afternoon.
A 6'5", 240-pound defensive end from Roswell High School in Georgia, Morrison is ranked the No. 78 edge rusher in the 2024 recruiting class by 247Sports and the No. 114 overall prospect from the state of Georgia, a hotbed for the top football recruits. Morrison held offers from several programs, including Duke, Indiana, Wake Forest, JMU, Liberty, Tulane, South Florida, Marshall, Air Force, East Carolina, Florida Atlantic, and others.
Virginia offered Morrison after he took an unofficial visit back in March and he returned this past weekend as the Cavaliers hosted many of their top recruiting targets for official visits. On Sunday, Morrison announced a top five of Duke, Indiana, Tulane, Wake Forest, and Virginia, but he decided he didn't need to take anymore visits before making his decision, announcing his commitment to UVA on Wednesday.
With the exception of Ethan Minter, who was recruited to play both sides of the ball, each of Virginia's first five verbal commits in the 2024 recruiting class were offensive players. Chase Morrison is the first defensive player to pledge to UVA's recruiting class of 2024. In his junior season in 2022, Morrison recorded 11 sacks, 109 total tackles, 19 tackles for loss, five pass breakups, and two forced fumbles and was named the Region 7 Defensive Player of the Year.

According to a report from 247Sports' Brian Dohn, Morrison plans to enroll at Virginia in January and will be an edge rusher on Chris Slade's defensive line.
Morrison is UVA's third verbal commit in as many days, as three-star offensive lineman Grant Ellinger committed on Monday and three-star wide receiver Christian Zachary committed on Tuesday. With Morrison's commitment, six recruits from the class of 2024 have verbally committed to Virginia:
- offensive lineman Benjamin York (Burke, VA)
- athlete Ethan Minter (Chester, VA)
- tight end John Rogers (Alexandria, VA)
- offensive lineman Grant Ellinger (Naperville, IL)
- wide receiver Christian Zachary (Saint Matthews, SC)
- defensive end Chase Morrison (Roswell, GA)
