Coach Mox and the Cavaliers will have an early opportunity to test themselves against some of the best teams in the country early in the 2023-2024 women's basketball season. It was announced on Tuesday morning that Virginia will participate in the inaugural Cayman Islands Classic women's college basketball tournament, which will be held November 24th and 25th at John Gray Gymnasium on Grand Cayman Island.

The two-day tournament will feature a loaded eight-team field that includes six major conference teams, including 2023 NCAA National Champions LSU, 2023 NIT Champions Kansas, 2023 ACC Tournament Champions Virginia Tech, and 11-time NCAA National Champion UConn. The full tournament field is UConn, LSU, Virginia Tech, Kansas, Virginia, UCLA, Niagara, and Tulane.

The full tournament schedule and matchups will be determined at a later date, but fans can book their tickets and travel packages here: caymanislandsclassictravel.com

In the first year of the Coach Mox era of Virginia women's basketball, the Cavaliers increased their win total from the previous season by ten games, went undefeated in non-conference play for the first time since 1991, and earned, but declined a postseason bid to the NIT. UVA is losing just two players - Taylor Valladay and McKenna Dale - from last year's roster and the Cavaliers are adding a pair of highly-touted in-state recruits in Kymora Johnson and Olivia McGhee as well as Arizona transfer guard Paris Clark, who committed to UVA on Friday. Virginia is set to have four former McDonald's All-Americans on its roster for the 2023-2024 season: Sam Brunelle, Mir McLean, Paris Clark, and Kymora Johnson.
