Roger Rosengarten Is Ready For A Big Year

The sophomore tackle is looking to build on a huge 2022 campaign.
In this story:

When Roger Rosengarten first showed up at Washington as a four-star tackle from Valor Christian High School in Colorado, you could write his scouting report with two words: anger and athleticism. After two years of working with offensive-line coach Scott Huff, he made his first career start in Washington's 2022 season opener against Kent State and hasn't looked back since.

The Husky coaching staff named him the "Offensive Power Player of the Week" for his performance in his first start and Rosengarten went on to have a highly productive season. He earned a 79.6 grade for the year from Pro Football Focus, which is the eighth-highest grade among returning tackles in 2023.

Rosengarten also received national honors for his performance in 2022, finding his name on the Freshman All-America first teams from both the Football Writers Association of America and College Football News. However, he's still a bit of an unknown to some heading into 2023.

The Pac-12 released its preseason all-conference teams on Tuesday and Rosengarten found his name on the honorable-mention list. By the end of the year, he should find his name on the first or second team.

Since his arrival on campus, Rosengarten has gained close to 50 pounds and has retained his elite athleticism while adding a significant amount of power to his game. While he plays right tackle, he could easily slide over to the left side if he was asked.

But with Michael Penix being one of the country's few left-handed quarterbacks, his services are more useful on Penix's blind side. With left tackle Troy Fautanu starting to receive more attention from the NFL, it won't be long before scouts are singing Rosengarten's praises, too.

I've followed the Huskies for my entire life, and to be in a position where I get to cover them full-time is nothing short of an honor. After graduating from Lasell University in 2019, I moved to Seattle to pursue my dream of working in sports media. While writing for the Husky Haul, I also covered local sports for the Everett Daily Herald before the COVID-19 pandemic. After being hired by Realdawg.com in February of 2021, I also transitioned into doing a lot of entertainment writing, as I work on a variety of magazines as a contributing writer for Centennial Media, and have also contributed to Emmy Magazine, as well as Walt Disney Television Studios.
