How Many In-State Prospects Can Washington Land?
Over the last few seasons, more and more recruits from the state of Washington have opted to leave to play college football. After EJ Caminong's decommitment, the Huskies don't have any local commits for the class of 2024.
Multiple top-10 prospects in the state have already announced decisions, with four-star tight end Hogan Hansen committed to Michigan, four-star offensive lineman Fox Crader committed to Oregon and three-star offensive lineman Marquis Taylor-Thorpe committed to UCLA. The Huskies also are out of the running for four-star linebacker Brayden Platt, who released his top-eight list in April.
Even though the Huskies haven't reeled in a ton of in-state prospects over the past few years, it sounds like they're still in the mix for the top two recruits in the state. Four-star running back Jason Brown and four-star offensive lineman Isendre Ahfua seem to be strongly considering their hometown program and there's a chance they could take an official visit to Washington in the fall.
After getting four-star cornerback Caleb Presley, the state's top prospect in 2023, to flip from Oregon to Washington on Early Signing Day, it appeared the Huskies' luck was turning around in-state. But since then, the school lost its only commit from the state in Caminong.
There's still time for Washington to turn things around in its backyard. A few late flips could go a long way, but earning commitments from the top two players in the state would go a long way toward continuing to "build a fence" while bolstering the status of the recruiting class at the same time.
