West Virginia Re-Enters College Baseball's National Rankings

The Mountaineers are hot and climbing the rankings

The West Virginia Mountaineers (29-11) have won seven of their last nine games and went a perfect 4-0 last week, claiming the Backyard Brawl season series opener versus Pitt at PNC Park on Wednesday night and grabbed the program’s first series sweep over the TCU Horned Frogs this past weekend, and for their efforts, West Virginia has re-entered every major college baseball poll to its highest rankings of the season while sitting at No. 23 in the RPI.

West Virginia entered the rankings in the first week of April after a Big 12 opening series win at Kansas State but dropped two out of three at home to Kansas the following week, knocking them out of the national rankings. 

The Mountaineers took over first place in the Big 12 Conference standings following the series sweep over TCU with a .667 league winning percentage behind a team batting average of .302 and a team ERA of 4.37, both ranks second in the Big 12 and are tied with Kansas State for a conference leading 90 stolen bases.

J.J. Wetherholt returned to action in the series finale versus TCU after missing five games with a hand injury. The sophomore second baseman still leads the Big 12 Conference in hitting with a .455 batting average and 28 stolen bases, while senior shortstop Tevin Tucker brought home Big 12 Baseball Player of the Week Honors on Monday.
