Score Predictions for West Virginia vs. Texas
Schuyler Callihan: Texas 80, West Virginia 70.
Texas may be without Kadin Shedrick for this one, but the Longhorns have plenty of firepower to overcome his potential absence. The backcourt duo of Max Abmas (17.1 ppg) and Tyrese Hunter (13 ppg) is going to be a handful for West Virginia.
If Shedrick does play, it will be hard for the Mountaineers to do much of anything inside. In the last two games combined, West Virginia has been outscored in the paint 92-42 and it's easy to see why with the lack of frontcourt depth.
I always try to find some sort of angle for West Virginia and although Texas isn't a stout team, I just can't find one. This is just a bad matchup for WVU.
Christopher Hall: Texas 77, West Virginia 64
The Mountaineers have been searching for answers since the start of the season, and the challenges seem endless with the current roster. West Virginia's front court is missing Jesse Edwards, and the disparity has shown up on the stat sheet.
Defensively, West Virginia lacks the intensity needed to pull out victories in the Big 12.
For West Virginia to win, the Mountaineers must do the little things to win, rebounding, getting to 50/50 balls, defensive stops, and running offense - areas they've yet to show any consistency in.
I suspect Texas guard Max Abrams will have a big day with or without big man Kadin Shedrick and until WVU consistency in fundamentals on both ends of the floor, the losses will continue to stack up. Texas wins 77-64.
