WVU's Crazy First Quarter vs. Houston Sets Program Record

West Virginia had control of this one from the opening tip.

Mark Kellogg is enjoying a terrific start to his tenure at West Virginia, picking up his 15th win on Wednesday night following a 80-39 beatdown of the Houston Cougars.

Kellogg's team prides itself on playing tenacious defense and Houston found that out the hard way by being held scoreless in the first quarter. It marked the first time in program history that West Virginia had held an opponent scoreless in any quarter. At the half, things weren't much better for the Cougs as the Mountaineers led 35-8.

For the game, Houston turned it over 22 times and were 17/61 from the floor, including a miserable 1/22 from beyond the arc.

"They missed some shots and we played pretty hard, turned them over a little bit," Kellogg said. "We rebounded the ball fairly well tonight and that was one of the first times here lately that we've done a pretty good job on the boards, so we limited them to the one and done."

West Virginia will be back in action Saturday evening as they make the quick road trip over to Cincinnati to take on the Bearcats. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. EST on ESPN+.
