Badgers vs. Boilermakers: A Big Ten Face-off

This Friday the Wisconsin Badgers travel to West Lafayette, Indiana, to compete against the Purdue Boilermakers in their first Big Ten game of the season. Out of 89 matchups with Purdue, the Wisconsin Badgers have won 52, lost 29, and tied 8 times.

Date: Friday, September 22, 2023

Kickoff Time: 6 pm CST

Venue: Ross-Ade Stadium in West Lafayette, Indiana

TV Broadcast: Fox Sports 1

Stream: Big Ten Network, Fox Sports

Radio: Badger Sports Network, AM-1310 and FM-101.5 in Madison

The Badgers have been a consistent nemesis for the Boilermakers, pulling off wins year after year with their longest streak running from October 2004 until October 2022. ESPN's Matchup Predictor also swings in favor of the Badgers, citing a 63.1% likelihood of a Wisconsin victory.

This season has seen the Badgers show strength in matches against both the Georgia Southern Eagles and Buffalo Bulls. Purdue, however, has had a rockier start, losing two of their first three games. Their only victory came against the Virginia Tech Hokies, and they recently suffered a 35-20 loss to the Syracuse Orange.

Will the QB Make the Difference?

All eyes will be on Wisconsin quarterback Tanner Mordecai. For the season he already boasts 702 yards, 2 interceptions, and 2 touchdowns. Longtime Badgers' columnist Jim Polzin recently spoke to Mordecai and they discussed his mindset for the upcoming game.

“I think I just have a lot more to worry about as far as this team, this offense, our production,” Mordecai said. “So I’m just focused on us, focused on winning."

“That’s just the truth. I’m just trying to focus on what we need to do.”

Final Thoughts

The Wisconsin Badgers have the historical advantage, the better odds, and a great quarterback in Tanner Mordecai, who is focused and in form. But the unpredictable nature of the Big Ten games means nothing is set in stone. Let's see if Mordecai and his Badger teammates can carry over the momentum from last week.
