Player Spotlight Britta Curl: The Multi-Talented Captain of Wisconsin Women's Hockey
From North Dakota Roots to Wisconsin Captain
Born in North Dakota, Britta Curl has hockey deep in her veins. She started playing hockey at the tender age of 3. A prodigy from the start, she has since climbed the ranks to become the Wisconsin Women's Hockey Captain. Currently, in her 6th season with the Badgers, Curl has a long list of accomplishments to her name.
The Early Years: Bismarck Blizzard and a Trail of Championships
Before joining the Wisconsin Badgers, Britta Curl was already a household name in North Dakota's hockey circles. She played for the Bismarck Blizzard, leading them to four state championships. Finishing her prep career with 189 goals and 116 assists, she was destined for greatness. Moreover, Curl won a gold medal with the Under-18 Women’s National Team at the World Championships in Russia, setting the stage for her college career.
College Career Highlights
Britta Curl made her college debut in the 2018-2019 season, quickly asserting her presence with 22 goals—tied for the fifth-most by a freshman in school history. In her sophomore season, she continued to impress, notching 16 goals and nine assists for a 25-point season. It was also her debut year on the national team for the 2019-20 Rivalry Series. In the following 2020-21 season, Curl took on the role of alternate captain and scored 17 points. After a redshirt season in 2021-2022, where she helped Team USA earn a silver medal at the 2021 IIHF Women's World Championship, she returned stronger than ever.
In the 2022-2023 season, Britta Curl was named team captain and played in all 41 games. She ranked second on the team with an impressive 43 points. Making personal history, she accomplished the first hat trick of her college career in a game against Bemidji State and later recorded her 100th career point. She led the Badgers to their 7th NCAA title after winning the 2023 National Championship.

More Than Just a Hockey Player
But Britta Curl is not just confined to the ice; she's a multi-talented individual. She recently won the CSC Second-Team Academic All-American in 2023, demonstrating her scholastic capabilities. Additionally, she's an accomplished musician, showcasing her talents in singing, songwriting, and playing multiple instruments including the piano, guitar, and accordion.
A Bright Future Awaits
As she continues to rack up points for the Badgers, it’s clear that Britta Curl is a powerhouse on and off the ice. With only 8 games played so far this season, she's already recorded a superb 23 points. Curl will join the national team again for the 2023-2024 Rivalry Series. With her continued growth, both as an athlete and an individual, the sky is the limit for this talented young woman and we can't wait to see what else her future holds.
