A week after Portland Trail Blazers guard Damian Lillard wrote an emotional Instagram post in response to not being selected to the All-Star Game, NBA commissioner Adam Silver picked Lillard to replace injured Los Angeles Clippers forward Blake Griffin.

On Sunday, the Clippers announced Griffin would undergo an operation on his right elbow and be out indefinitely.

In the original statement, Lillard said he wanted to thank all of the people who thought "he wasn't good enough," and intimated he was both disappointed and disrespected.

Lillard was voted an All-Star last season, despite averaging fewer points, assists, steals and rebounds per game than he has so far this season.
