The Giants and Daniel Jones agreed to a massive four-year extension on Tuesday, the sheer size of which has sparked quite a bit of discussion around the NFL. While the deal may have some detractors, one of the Jones’s teammates was quick to run his quarterback’s defense.

Giants receiver Darius Slayton crafted a rather simple, but elegant response on Wednesday to a Tuesday tweet from Bears safety Jaquan Brisker, who was commenting on the latest Lamar Jackson franchise tag news and took a stray shot at Jones. Though Brisker didn’t mention the New York quarterback by name he wrote that while the Ravens didn’t have a long-term deal for the former MVP, “other Bruh got paid today and is trash fam.”

Slayton took note of Brisker’s remark and tweeted a screenshot of the score in the 2022 game between the Giants and the Bears, which New York won 20–12.

Brisker wasn’t the only one to question the size of Jones’s deal, which is worth $160 million over the next four years, a source tells Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, and will give Jones a chance to make an additional $35 million in incentives. The deal makes the 25-year-old the seventh highest-paid quarterback in the NFL in average annual salary, per Over The Cap, tied with Matthew Stafford and Dak Prescott.

While Jones and the front office may face some scrutiny for the hefty contract, the Giants locker room appears to be united behind its quarterback. New York went 9-7-1 last season, due in part to a much more mistake-free year from Jones, and will seek to return to the playoffs under the former No. 6 pick in 2023.
