On the heels of LSU’s 2023 women’s basketball national title, Angel Reese’s popularity continues to soar.

NBA legend Shaquille O’Neal, who also played at LSU, even declared that he thinks Reese is the best athlete to ever come from the school, in men’s or women’s sports. But, what does Reese think about this bold quote?

The Tigers star was asked about Shaq’s comment during an appearance on Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club on Monday, and she quickly admitted that she doesn’t think she deserves that title yet.

“I feel like I haven’t done nothing yet, so I told him ‘Don’t even say that,’” Reese said. “I won a championship, but I just don’t feel like I’ve done enough. … I don’t even realize how important it is, how much weight it holds. I don’t really understand that.”

Reese said she sent a text to O’Neal shortly after his comment went viral to say “You know how much pressure you just put on me?”

The forward doesn’t exactly know what other accomplishments she could achieve in order to make her feel worthy of holding the “best athlete to come out of LSU” title. Possibly winning another national title or winning Player of the Year would help her believe it, she said.

“Another championship is what’s going to hold weight, because I feel like I’m getting the Joe Burrow treatment up there,” Reese continued. “I feel like I’m getting that type of treatment. But, another championship, maybe a player of the year would hold some more weight.”

Coincidentally, Reese and Burrow just took photos together at Saturday’s spring football game.

Burrow won one national title during his career at LSU, and won the Heisman Trophy the same season. It sounds like Reese wants to see what else the Tigers women’s basketball team can accomplish before her college career is over.
