Jets backup quarterback Zach Wilson started on Thursday night in the NFL Hall of Fame game vs. the Browns, and he quickly threw a pass that made fans quite excited for his long-term upside.

Wilson threw a 57-yard pass to receiver Malik Taylor on a 2nd-&-7 play during the first quarter. This ended up being Wilson’s only complete pass of the Jets drive, though. The play then resulted in a field goal.

Aaron Rodgers couldn’t hold back his excitement from the play, too.

And, this all happened on Wilson’s 24th birthday.

Jets fans were pumped to see this action from Wilson, especially after his tumultuous season last year. The Jets benched Wilson last year, and he only started in nine games despite being named the starter for the second year in a row.

Now, with Rodgers on the roster, Wilson is the designated backup. If Wilson can keep improving and throwing passes like this one, then Jets fans will continue to feel confident about the growth and future outlook of their QB2.

Here’s some of the best social media reaction to Wilson’s 57-yard pass.
