Jets’ Garrett Wilson Cleverly Trolls Broncos Coach Sean Payton
Broncos coach Sean Payton established some rather interesting rules for his team in regard to preseason competition, including a ban on sunglasses, bucket hats and interviews on the sideline during games.
While the Jets beat the Panthers 27–0 on Saturday, reigning Offensive Rookie of the Year Garrett Wilson cleverly trolled Payton during his own in-game interview.
Wilson showed up to his interview wearing a Jets bucket hat and sunglasses. The only one of Payton’s rules he didn’t flout was that the new Denver coach doesn’t want players wearing jerseys when they’re done playing in the preseason.
Although Wilson’s intent hasn’t been confirmed, it certainly seems to be a response to Payton’s viral comments about Jets offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett.
Payton was quoted saying Hackett’s time as the Broncos head coach last season “might have been one of the worst coaching jobs in the history of the NFL,” via USA Today. Jets quarterback Aaron Rodgers already has backed up his offensive coordinator in that matter.
