J.J. Watt Jokes He'd Consider Coming Out of Retirement for Nick Bosa Money

Nick Bosa signing his massive contract extension with the 49ers on Wednesday seems to have gotten J.J. Watt thinking.

Watt, who retired after the 2022 NFL season, took to X, formerly Twitter, to discuss Bosa’s $170 million contract extension, which the 34-year-old called “very well-deserved.”

After digging into the details of Bosa’s new deal, Watt declared that he’d “maybe” consider coming out of retirement if presented with a similar contract.

“Just getting a chance to sit down and look at the breakdown of Bosa’s new (very well-deserved) contract,” wrote Watt. “I have a little more digging to do, but I’m starting to feel comfortable saying that I would consider un-retiring if offered a similar contract. Maybe.”

Bosa’s lucrative five-year deal includes a staggering $122.5 million in guaranteed money. While Watt closed the curtain on his NFL career after last season, he joked that it would only take a nine-figure deal to have him reconsidering.

Watt has stayed busy in retirement, announcing this summer that he’d become a co-owner of English Premier League soccer club Burnley FC. Back in May, he wrote on X that he wasn’t considering returning to football, seemingly enjoying retired life.

It seems not everyone on social media understood Watt made the comments in jest however, as the former defensive star had to respond to his original post in order to clarify he was joking.
