After losing his wife Denise to cancer, Mark Rosen receives handwritten cards from entire Gopher football team
Beloved Minnesota sportscaster Mark Rosen was back to work Monday following time away to be at his wife's side during her final days of her battle with brain cancer. Upon returning to his desk at KFAN FM 100.3 in St. Louis Park, Rosen found dozens upon dozens of sympathy cards.
All of them were from the Gopher football team.
"So I find these on my desk at [KFAN] upon my return today, handwritten notes of condolences from every Gopher football player including a very personal one from QB Tanner Morgan who lost his Dad to brain cancer recently," Rosen tweeted.
Rather than putting the spotlight any more on the team, the University of Minnesota athletics department declined to provide full details behind the special gesture to Rosen. Instead, a department spokesperson said:
"Coach Fleck and the team wanted to send their sympathy to Mark and his family. That's the only message here, that we recognize the pain that Mark and his family have experienced and wanted to express our sympathy."
Denise Rosen died Aug. 30 at the age of 70. Her obituary notes that she and Mark were married for 44 years. The family has asked that anyone who wishes to support them do so by donating in Denise's honor to the Denise Rosen Memorial NC Little Hospice House in Edina, or the Givens Brain Tumor Center at Abbott Northwestern Hospital in Minneapolis.
