Kirk Cousins comes through with vow to get 'grillz'
It was Thanksgiving Day 2022 when Kirk Cousins said he planned on getting fit for a set of "grillz" from his hometown dentist.
Cousins has finally made good on that promise. On Tuesday, Cousins posted a picture of himself in his dentist's office with a custom set of gold grillz that were impossible to miss on his ear-to-ear smile.
"If you haven't yet found a Grillz-guy, check out Dr. Lebster. 5/5 stars! He doesn't take Kohl's Cash, but he does great work. I know (Justin Jefferson) approves," Cousins wrote in the caption of his post.
Jefferson did appear to approve in the comments and is already ready to see more, replying, "Next we got to get u some diamond ones" with some laughing emojis.
Running back Alexander Mattison replied, "#That'sMyQB !!" with clapping and laughing emojis, while fellow running back Cam Akers responded, "This guy" with a laughing emoji. The Vikings Instagram account and tight end TJ Hockenson also offered some laughing emojis in the replies.
The shocking post came a day after Cousins posted video of himself stepping back and throwing, a positive sign in his recovery from a torn Achilles tendon.
Cousins initially said his "next step" after his viral video in chains was to get grillz after the Vikings beat the New England Patriots 33-26 on Nov. 24, 2022, as he was eating a turkey leg following their Thanksgiving night victory.
Cousins said later in a media availability that he got an email from his hometown dentist as well as several other dentists across the U.S. and Canada.
"I don't even know what it takes to make them," he said at the time. "It's not a world I've lived in for a very long time, but I'm learning."
Cousins said at the time he was "gonna ride with" his hometown dentist for the grillz.
"There's no lack of effort, no lack of help and resources, so we'll see what we can pull off before the season is over," he said.
It took a little bit longer than the rest of the season — in fact, Cousins was grillz-free for the entirety of the 2023 season — but the quarterback made good on his promise.
