Report: 'Keep your eye on what's going on with Justin Jefferson'
Fourteen words uttered from the mouth of longtime Minnesota sports reporter Mark Rosen has put Vikings Nation on high alert for Justin Jefferson news.
"Keep your eye on what's going on with Justin Jefferson the next 48 hours," Rosen said in the closing seconds of Wednesday's Power Trip Morning Show on KFAN-FM 100.3 in the Twin Cities.
Asked if the potential pending news is good, Rosen replied, "Let's hope so."
Jefferson has been absent from Vikings voluntary organized team activities and the team has given no formal reason for his absence, though head coach Kevin O'Connell had some interesting comments on Tuesday when he was asked about Jefferson.
"For me, I hope to see him as soon as possible," O'Connell said. "I think our participation among our whole team has been so good that we've been able to get great work in. Would love to have him, obviously. But I think as we work towards minicamp we'll have a real, clean cut plan of what that looks like, and hopefully get him some work, and I know a lot of the guys will be excited to see him."
Jefferson may be on the verge of signing a mega extension with the Vikings.
"I'm told that he's away from the team right now but that's no a major concern. He's expected back for minicamp," ESPN's Jeremy Fowler said Tuesday. "It's possible he's away from OTAs because of the contract but I don't think that's been spelled out. I'm told he's been in contact with the team, so there's definitely no bad blood. They're in a really good spot."
Mandatory minicamp takes place June 13-14.
Fowler noted that it's possible Jefferson's new contract, whenever it gets done, could make him the highest-paid non-quarterback in the NFL. That would mean his annual salary would have to surpass the $31.6 million Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald will earn in 2023.
