The Deep South's Oldest Rivalry renews this weekend on The Plains as defending national champion and No. 1 ranked Georgia squares off against Auburn and first-year head coach Hugh Freeze in college football's Week 5 action on Saturday.

As expected, Georgia is undefeated through four games, but there are some questions around the relative lack of explosiveness on offense, and a more critical gaze over the pass rush on a defense that has allowed 35 points the last two times out.

Auburn dropped its first game in the Hugh Freeze era last week as the offense sputtered in a 27-10 loss at Texas A&M, scoring just 24 combined points against two Power Five opponents on the season.

What do the experts think of the matchup? Let's see how the College Football Power Index computer prediction model projects the game.

Point spread: Georgia comes into the game as 14.5 point favorites against Auburn, according to the lines at SI Sportsbook, which set the total at 44.5 points.

Georgia predictions: Down 2 spots on the index 133 team rankings this week, the models forecast that Georgia is 23.3 points better than opponents, and forecasted to win 11.1 games this season.

Auburn predictions: The loss at A&M dropped the Tigers 6 spots on the index polls, which project they are 8.5 points better than opponents this season, and estimated to win 6.7 games in 2023.

College Football Power Index

Football Power Index (FPI) college football rankings and computer prediction model are a measure of team strength that predicts a team’s future performance.

Rankings and scores predictions are based on 20,000 simulations of a team’s season and games, using a combination of key analytics, including scores to date, quality of opponents, team talent, recruiting, and a team’s schedule.

Teams are ranked not strictly in order of talent like in other rankings, but by a projected point margin per game against an average team on a neutral field.
