Thanks to a pair of major historic developments — the advent of NIL and the emergence of EA Sports College Football 25 — college football players are now officially able to appear in the upcoming video game and legally get paid.

EA Sports has finalized its name, image, and likeness plans and has begun the process for players to opt in to have their personalities reflected in the game, which is expected to hit the shelves in the summer of 2024.

Any athlete who gives permission to appear in the game will receive $600 in addition to a free copy of the game, which is valued around $70. They would remain in the game for their entire careers, but can opt out of future games if they want.

Those who are featured in the game for multiple years will be paid each year, and those who transfer to a new school can be compensated for appearing in the game provided they remain on a football roster.

Players will also have the chance to profit from other NIL incentives connected to the College Football 25 game, including social media posts, promotions on campus connected to the game, appearing in advertisements for the game, and other opportunities.
