Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh has met with the Los Angeles Chargers and Atlanta Falcons, and is scheduled to meet with them a second time, and while there's still some hope UM can retain him going forward, the general trend appears to be that Harbaugh will eventually wind up in the NFL for the 2024 season.

That's according to NFL insider Adam Schefter, who noted that there is intense interest from the pro ranks to lure Harbaugh away from college and are preparing financial incentives for him to do so.

"It's tracking that way, and I do think it's trending that way," Schefter said on ESPN.

"It seems like there's a lot of interest, not just from the Chargers, but from the Falcons, so I think there's a realistic chance he's going to wind up in the NFL. I think that's the belief of a lot of people. But right now, he's got to go through these interviews."

On3 Sports reported that Harbaugh's wife will accompany the coach to Los Angeles for his second interview with the Chargers organization.

Michigan remains in talks with the coach on a deal that insiders report extends to 10 years and is valued at $125 million, but Harbaugh is reportedly asking for language in the contract that prevents him from being fired amid any possible NCAA punishment.

Rumors around Harbaugh's coaching future heated up further late in the season after it was rumored that the Michigan coach hired agent Don Yee, a veteran rep with deep NFL ties, combined with Harbaugh not yet signing a new deal with UM.

Harbaugh went 44-19-1 as the head coach of the San Francisco 49ers from 2011 to 2014, playing in three straight NFC Championship Games and one Super Bowl. He also earned credibility as a coach by helping turnaround Stanford and then Michigan.
